1930S SYRIE MAUGHAM STYLE SHELL CHAIRS

A pair of rare fireside chairs of surrealist, scallop shell-like form, likely commissioned by a prominent decorator of the Art Deco era and very much in the manner of Syrie Maugham (1879-1955) or Elsie de Wolfe (1865-1950).

Traditionally built and reupholstered c. 1960s in muted mauve velvet which has some age commensurate wear, but is in a good state of conservation.

Each chair resting on four carved and gadrooned solid oak feet.

French, c. 1935.
