18TH CENTURY ITALIAN CONVERSATION SEAT
A charming, late 18th century ‘conversation’ seat - also frequently known as a ‘courting’ bench or ‘tête-à-tête’ sofa. Featuring a distressed timber frame with remnants of historic paint, the construction of the backrests suggest that they may have once rotated, allowing the two sitters to face the same way, side-by-side. Later upholstery c. 1940s in muted gold floral silk with decorative trim and extravagant fringing, worn but brimming with character.
